Elite Standings
Once a player crosses the 2800 Rating threshold, they are recognized as an Elite Player. Reaching 3200+ means you are "Tournament Ready" for professional worldwide arithmetic challenges.
Rating Acceleration & Dynamic K-Factor
Ratings are designed to be easier to climb while still rewarding consistent speed and accuracy. Strong players should not be trapped at an artificially slow progression rate.
Rating Progression: K=192 for the first 5 games, K=128 for the next 10, K=96 for the next 15, and K=64 thereafter.
Rating Multipliers (Increases): Successfully submitting correct compilation results shifts your value upwards. If you out-pace your opponent's baseline chronometer speed, an accelerated speed multiplier index scales your output up to your active game index optimization boundary.
Deflection Degradation (Decreases): Registering incorrect responses or allowing the absolute countdown clock sequence to exhaust automatically drops your value parameter. Resigning inside an active matchmaking timeline applies a variable deficit modifier.
Difficulty Cutoffs Table (Click a Range to Expand)
Below 1200 the setup is fixed at 1 digit, 2 rows, 1.000s. From 1200 upward, click any 100-point bracket to see the exact setup for every 10-point step inside it. Whenever you cross into a new digit count (at 1900, 2300, 2600, 3000), rows and time reset to an easier level, then build up again.

AbacusArena.org marks over 100 consecutive days of live arithmetic matches.
When I compiled the very first build of AbacusArena on April 23, 2026, the goal was simple: construct a distraction-free, zero-paywall arena where anyone can train mental arithmetic without seeing a single advertisement.
Crossing our first 100+ days of continuous operation, the platform has grown rapidly. Solvers now log on daily to test their speed, challenge adaptive bots, and master mental Soroban visualization.

AAM Policy
AAM (AbacusArenaMaster) is the highest honorary title on AbacusArena.
It is awarded exclusively by the Founder & Lead Developer to players who demonstrate
exceptional mastery — similar to the LM title on Lichess.org.
Only the founder can award AAM — no one else has this ability.
The title is permanent once granted.
It appears on the leaderboard, sidebar, and profile.
There is no automatic threshold. It is extremely rare.
The AAM title is not something you grind for. It is a recognition of extraordinary skill and consistency.

What about your future updates?
This is one of the most important questions. We will continue improving
AbacusArena whenever time permits. We will mostly aim to release updates

However, since I, the founder, is not a full-time developer, it is not
possible to say exactly how frequently we will release updates. We are also planning to bring more developers into the project so that we can improve the website further and introduce more useful features.
What is the benefit of practicing daily to reach a high rating?
Daily practice sharpens your working memory, visual bead processing, and mental focus. A higher rating reflects stronger speed and accuracy under increasingly difficult calculation settings.

Reaching a 3000+ rating means you have developed elite calculation speed, allowing you to compete with confidence in official state, national, and international abacus competitions against top peers.

Regular sessions condition your brain to process multi-digit sequences instantly without cognitive fatigue.
Gameplay
How does the Rated Mode work?
Rated Mode uses an adaptive Elo system. You start at 1500 rating. Correct answers increase your rating, incorrect answers decrease it. The difficulty (digits, rows, and speed) automatically adjusts based on your rating. The K-factor is intentionally high and adaptive. New and returning players can see larger meaningful changes, while the system gradually becomes more stable as they play consistently. Rating confidence also changes with activity and inactivity.
What is Manual Practice Mode?
Manual Practice Mode lets you customize your training with full control over:
Digits: 1 to 5 digits per number
Rows: 2 to 100 rows per session
Speed: 0.25s to 5.0s display timing
This is perfect for targeted practice on specific skills.
How does rating confidence change?
Every new account starts with 320.00 points of rating confidence. As you actively play rated sessions, this value gradually falls toward a minimum of 45.00, making your rating more stable over time.
When you stop playing for a while, the confidence value rises again. When you return and actively participate, it decreases again. This makes rating changes more responsive after inactivity and more stable during consistent activity.
The confidence system works together with the high adaptive K-factor, so new and returning players can move through the ratings meaningfully while established active players get steadier results.

What do the rating tiers mean?

How is the rating calculated?
Your rating updates using an adaptive Elo system. Players receive high, adaptive rating movement that responds to both experience and rating confidence. Consistent activity makes the rating more stable, while inactivity makes the system more responsive again. The difficulty matrix increases smoothly with rating.
What is Rating Deviation (RD)?
Rating Deviation (RD) measures how uncertain the system is about your current rating.
A lower RD means your rating is more accurate and stable.
If your RD is below 110.00, your rating is considered much more accurate.
45.00 is the minimum RD.
320.00 is the absolute maximum RD.
Playing rated games lowers your RD and makes your rating more stable.
Inactivity increases your RD, making your rating more responsive when you return.
AAM Title & Leaderboard
What is the leaderboard?
The global leaderboard shows the top 10 registered players on AbacusArena by rating.
You can open it anytime from the 🏆 Leaderboard button in the navbar.
Only registered accounts appear on the leaderboard. Players who use the site in
anonymous mode are not listed, to keep it fair and simple.
The leaderboard is refreshed with live data every time you open it, and cached for a few minutes
so it loads instantly on subsequent visits.
What is AAM? How can I get it?
AAM stands for AbacusArenaMaster. It is the
highest honorary title on AbacusArena — reserved only for players who demonstrate extraordinary
skill, consistency, and mastery of mental arithmetic.
Who awards it?
AAM is awarded exclusively by the Founder & Lead Developer, Aswin Krishnamoorthy.
There is no application form, no threshold you can grind for, and no automatic award. The founder
personally decides when a player deserves it.
How rare is it?
Think of AAM like the LM (Lichess Master) title on Lichess.org. It is
extremely exceptional — not something you can earn just by playing a lot. Only a
very small number of players will ever receive it.
How is it shown?
Once awarded, the AAM badge appears next to your username on the leaderboard, in the sidebar
identity card, and on your public profile. It is permanent — it cannot be removed or lost, even
if your rating drops.
Can someone else give it to me?
No. Only the founder can award AAM. No third party, moderator, or other player has that ability.

Aswin Krishnamoorthy is the Founder and Lead Developer of AbacusArena.
He is responsible for the website’s core architecture, codebase, design, and overall platform direction.
He started AbacusArena with the vision of creating a free, ad-free, and accessible speed calculation arena for students worldwide.
He is also a first-year B.Tech IT student at Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai.

Confirm by typing DeleteEverything to reset all ratings, games history, and statistics from the beginning.
Terms of Service & Fair Play
AbacusArena.org — Please read before you play.
Fair Play — Do Not Cheat
Do not cheat or use external calculators while playing.
Do not get help from any friends or other people during a match.
One account is awarded to only one player. No other person may play using the same account.
Breaking these rules undermines the entire purpose of the arena. Play honestly — your rating only means something if it is truly yours.
Not following these rules may result in a temporary ban.
How to Be Safe on the Internet
Since we don't maintain a separate password or email system, using our website is genuinely simple and safe.
There is no password to leak, no email to phish, and no personal inbox tied to your account.
However, if you do not feel comfortable registering, but still want to play — you can play without logging in.
In anonymous mode, your ratings are saved only in your browser. Clearing your browser data will reset your progress,
and anonymous players are not shown on the leaderboard.
Either way, you are in control. Register for a permanent nickname, or stay anonymous — both are fully supported.
No Ads. No Tracking. Ever.
Our website will never have ads. Advertisements sell our screen space and influence the experience we build for you.
Tracking sells personal information to increase advertising effectiveness. None of that exists on AbacusArena.org — forever.
We do not sell your data, because we do not collect it for that purpose.
The AAM Title
You don't get the AAM title — the AAM title gets you.
We kindly request that you do not ask for AAM. Asking for it actually reduces your chance of receiving it.
Instead, train.
Aim for 2500+ rating. The higher your rating, and the more consistent your skill, the higher your chances of being recognised.
AAM is awarded only by the Founder, and only when it is truly deserved.
